Had a Mini Book Read in Dawson Creek. Saw some old friends (art gallery curator), made some new friends, and ran into the newspaper editor I’d met the year prior.

I had spent the prior day baking for said book read, posted and spread the word best I could and the art gallery too, they spread the word, it was even in their mini paper, but no one showed up at 2pm for my 2pm-sharp reading.

What did I do? I pushed it to 3pm in hopes of more people coming. Which one did.

I read to six people, it was great! Everyone enjoyed the story and the snacks and they divvied up the remainder (I already had extras back home!)

But the point is, is that big or small, every event matters. Every chance of getting your name out there, even to one more person per event is spreading. It takes time, it takes patience and a humbleness to be okay with no one showing up at all.

Every interaction is an opportunity, and every event is a learning experience. This one, I learnt it’s okay to be flexible, because that one person did show up, just to hear my mini book read!

Stick with it, whatever it is,
