this was originally written for new years eve-

happy new year

and im not going out to party

because i dont

because i did too much

so i say, no to party

but here’s a poem

in honour of everyone making a new years resolution, (and here’s hoping mine sticks {to post all these drafts in my website!}) this poem pays ode to the best choice i’d ever made, so here’s wishing you well wishes ❤

this poem is called New Beginnings, which is the same name as the quilt work shown in the picture (which also won an award in the art show) but I won an ekphrastic honourable mention award and stood in front of my first crowd of strangers since I was twelve or thirteen, or whatever it was when i read that Remembrance poem in grade school and read it to the entire school in the gymnasium *gag* and I still- *gag* because I’m a writer, not a reader, not a public speaker LOL but I do these things.

That’s enough procrastinating, without further ado! Here is the poem on wrote inspired by the title of the art pictured below.

New Beginnings

Was the school I went to.

Or the portables behind the school to be politically correct.

Portable? It’s a trailer.

Positioned precariously posterior the main building.

For young women.

Women?

Teens.

Ones that had babies.

Ones that kept babies.

His smile would melt any girls heart,” childcare workers exclaim.

Handsome, even at three months old. Styling, no matter the age.

Rolled around like pebbles.

Fat legs got fatter. Coveralls with pleats, plaid and velvet.

He’s my heart.

He’s my choice.

No one makes decisions for me.

Inspiration? Conspiration? Motivation.

A chip born/broke from a young sapling, not even full grown herself.
