The most disappointing feeling in writing

I’ve come across this a few times now. I spend time and energy researching and writing a story with an element I haven’t read or heard anywhere else.

I feel proud of myself, like I found the philosophers stone, something novel that others will be in awe of.

And then my daughter tells me to watch some manga and boom! It’s all over the place.

Case in point is – homunculus- I wrote these alchemised small humanoids in a few of my unpublished novels and thought it was a secret gem, now I see the word everywhere!

But will I be discouraged?

Maybe, but only for a moment because realistically no one can tell the same story twice and I enjoy writing! It’s my hobby, it’s what drives my days into evenings.

It’s why I have friend groups that I sit with every month. It’s why I enjoy my solo time with snacks and a fresh notebook. I wouldn’t change writing for anything, even if everything has already been written.
